Technical characteristics of glass floor tiles

Which glass should you choose for your floor tiles?

The choice of glass type depends on several criteria such as safety, strength
and aesthetics. Here are the types of glass commonly used for glass floor tiles :

Laminated Glass

Composed of several layers of glass, laminated glass offers exceptional resistance to impact and pressure. When it breaks, the film holds the pieces in place, preventing dangerous fragments from scattering.

Tempered Laminated Glass

This thermally treated glass is up to five times stronger than ordinary glass. It allows for the manufacture of thinner floor tiles while maintaining excellent strength and safety.

It is recommended to add a non-slip glass such as VIT STOP GLISS to prevent any risk of slipping. This glass has been treated to reduce its coefficient of friction, making it more resistant to sliding. It is often used for floor panels in high-traffic or wet areas to minimize the risk of falls.
We recommend using an opal film when floor tiles are
intended for use as floor covering on upper floors, in order to prevent any risk of
undesirable transparency.

When should you use a glass floor ?

Glass floor tiles can be used in a wide range of projects, both private and public :
Skylight
Between the ground floor and the first floor.

Mezzanine

To maximise light and space.
Separation floor for a cellar

allowing you to see beneath the floor.

FAQ – Everything you need to know about glass flooring

Which glass floor tiles are best suited for public spaces ?

For public spaces, we recommend laminated tempered glass tiles, as they offer excellent impact resistance and guarantee user safety.

How to install a glass floor ?

The installation of glass floor panels requires support on all four sides of the panel. This support must be at least 40 mm, accompanied by quality seals to absorb variations. It is important to carefully choose seals compatible with the EVA films we provide to ensure optimal installation. You can also choose to add a non-slip glass, which increases the coefficient of friction and makes the floor more resistant to slipping, especially in high-traffic or wet areas.

Can I customise my glass floor to suit my aesthetic preferences ?

Yes, you can customise your tiles with decorative inserts, digital prints, sandblasting or tinted glass, depending on your preferences.

Are glass floor tiles resistant to high temperatures ?

Yes, glass floor tiles are designed to withstand a range of temperatures. However, it is advisable to avoid extreme thermal shocks to ensure their durability, as well as high temperatures that can damage the EVA films.
